Welcome to Oranga Intergenerational Co-living, an innovative intergenerational housing initiative in Lisbon, Portugal, focused on creating mutually beneficial living experiences for older and younger people.
We address two major issues - social isolation among older people and unaffordable housing for younger people - by bringing them together in a mutually enriching living experience.

Oranga is a concept of the Māori people (New Zealand) for solace, relief, comfort, tranquility, well-being, and health. Māori culture is based on respect and veneration of ancestors, a practice that has been declining in many cultures over time.
After more than a decade on the front lines of emergency care in ambulances and hospitals in Lisbon and around the world, it became clear to me how urgent - and often simple - it is to implement creative strategies for health prevention & promotion.
Our nature is to coexist, beyond language, borders, culture, lifestyles, and - above all - ages. When we realize how powerful connections can be, we surrender. There is a very special feeling in making friends with someone much younger or older than us: perspective is redefined, memories and visions of the future arise. By being mirrors of each other, the delicate space of empathy expands, leading us to grow collectively.
